View of the villageMogoro is one of the most important centres in the province di Oristano and the most populated one in Upper Marmilla. The place-name presents a significant similarity to the Basque Mokòr and the Spanish Mogòte, meaning ‘tableland, hilly top, low hill’. In the local language, the village is called Mòguru and its villagers Mogoresusu.

The territory has a remarkable archaeological value, its anthropization dating back to the prehistorical age. The main sites are the prehistorical village of Puisteris and the Nuragic complex of Cuccurada, but there are also ruins of Roman and Punic settlements.

View of the snow-covered villageIn the past century, the road system of the village was renovated to include suburb areas. The inhabited centre has winding and narrow side-streets, with old houses in the historical centre; black basalt characterises the old country houses, with their small windows framed by white lime and large wooden portals opening on internal yards or houses.
