Architecture

The church of St. AntiocoMogoro counts several churches, where festivals and religious fairs take place in honout to the Saints worshipped in the community.

The 17th-century parish church of St. Bernardino can be found at the centre of the village. In Romanesque-Baroque style, it has a single nave and eight side-chapels. The nave is frescoed with paintings illustrating scenes from the Saint’s life.

The church of CarmineSt. Antioco’s church was erected on a small height at about 200 m from the periphery of the inhabited centre. Built in black basalt, its origins date back to the period between the late 12th century and the early 13th. The edifice contains several paintings offered to the Saint as a thanksgiving for the graces received.

The church of Carmine is a splendid example of Romanesque style in Sardinia. It has a single nave, an eastern apse and a wooden roofing. There are no documents reporting the origins or the history of this monument, yet its stylistic features allow to refer it to the 14th century.

The church of St. Maria CarcaxiaThe church of St. Maria Carcaxia dates from the 10th-12th century; it belonged to the ancient curatoria of Bonòrcili. The walls of the building were reconstructed in 1921 on the model of the original ones. The ancient small church was traditionally dedicated to the Virgo of the Assumption.

A Centro polifunzionale, in piazza Martiri della Libertà, covering an area of about 3,400 sqm. It is a wide space divided in different interiors arranged on several levels. In a fine architectural context, specific services and exhibition/ information/cultural spaces, including marketing areas, will allow visitors to find out the most representative manufactured quality products by artisans from Mogoro -but also from the whole island - in the field of artistic craftsmanship.
